This poster was produced by NOAA’s Pacific Islands Science Center (PIFSC) and Regional Office (PIRO) as part of the education materials produced for public scoping meetings associated with the introduction of new management measures for spinner dolphins in Hawaii. The poster depicts the derived behavioral schedule of spinner dolphins in efforts to educate people about the consequences of disrupting resting behavior in these animals.
The poster was created by D.W. Johnston, who at the time was the leader of NOAA’s Cetacean Research Unit at PIFSC in Honolulu, HI. This graphic is now routinely used by many when presenting on topics associated with spinner dolphins in Hawaii.
The graphic can be downloaded from the PIRO spinner dolphin management website.
